The day started off a little wet as I drove down to Teeside to a fantastic little church “St Cuthberts” in a little town called marton, St Cuthbert’s, church happened to be where captain cook, (He discovered Australia in case you didn’t know?) was actually baptised, and they have an bonafide signed registry book on show to prove it….., but I digress.
Dave is an old friend of mine and was both ecstatic and honored when he and Jane asked me to be their official wedding photographer for the day.
Here’s a few pictures take from the day both at St Cuthberts and then at the reception at the fantastic Headlam Hall near Barnard castle. I’m glad to say the day brightened up to be a lovely day.
Dave and Jane’s family and friends made me feel very welcome and were great sports putting up with some of my antics, they where truly a great group of people.
I had both the honour and privilege to photograph Stuart and Catherine’s wedding at the beautiful St Peters church in Sunderland and then a short drive down the A19 to the beautiful Shotton Hall in Peterlee for the wedding reception.
I felt welcomed by friends and family and had an absolute blast to the point I didn’t actually want to leave.
The silence and tranquility of the wedding was broken occasionally by the roar of engines as the wedding was not only taking part on the same day as the Sunderland Air Show, but also in the SAME TOWN!
But hey, pretty cool thing to have as a backdrop to your wedding day eh??
Just like to say a BIG thanks to both Catherine and Stuart for inviting me into the personal side of their Big Day! I had a great time with you both as well as your wonderful family and friends, fantastic day, fantastic place and fantastic people.
Saturday evening at the sea front in South Shields saw a superb spectacle at the “Mouth of the the Tyne Festival” ( aka MOTFest) featuring a parade culminating in the rare treat of some on stage Bollywood Dancing!!
I have to confess it was jaw dropping stuff, for all there was a lot of walking backwards trying to shoot the precession along the colourful parade of flame eating giant stilt men to elephants with green eyes, all this while trying to squeeze my way through the “more than I expected” crowds, not at all easy with a backpack.
The light was deteriorating fast and so was the power in my flash (I only decided to go along at the last minute so didn’t exactly apply the same precision pre planning I do before the battle of a wedding!) … but hey no excuses I’m a professional photographer damn it!
The Bollywood dancing was nothing short of spectacular even though I viewed most of it through the lens of my Camera ( canon 5D MKII ) for those of you tech head savvy people.
ending with some of the most spectacular fireworks I have seen in these parts for a long while ( maybe i got caught in the whole bollywood thing) but the gathered masses voiced their own approval with a harmony of ooohhh ’s and Aaahhh’s, All in all I’m really please with the image I managed to muster from the darkness and instead of the usual way of showing images , I would put them in a simple to view gallery, Hope you like them.
Well, its is 2010 afterall and the digital age is truly upon us , ….isn’t it?
The new apple iPad™ is going to revolutionise the way we do most things from browsing the Internet to looking at pictures, and if you believe what we are told on TV, you allready know how to use it, wait a sec… did I say looking at pictures?, hmmm that got me thinking….. If I was getting married and chosing a wedding album, which.. out of all the albums I offer, would appeal to me most?,
I have my favourites but god knows, wouldn’t it be cool if I had an apple iPad™ with an album already on that?
When its not being used I simply stand it up on its edge and let the slide show of wedding images kick in and display the way the iPad™ does best, with its funky folds and slides. Theres no wrong way to hold this thing, so you can view your images portrait or landscape. When your I’m sick of looking at my pictures and I want to browse the Internet, I simply take it off its stand touch the screen and satisfy my face book fixation instead, show the family and friends our wonderful images taken on the day then read books or emails too… WOW a wedding album, with so many practical applications ?
So, as a trial run I’m deciding to offer the Apple iPad™ as one of my wedding packages, I’m also including a DVD with all Hi Resolution images edited and colour balanced included in with the price, as well as a custom cover design option (still looking into this) and offer a discounted album just in case the boss in the relationship still wants that story book album.
We will see how it go’s from here but if there’s many people like me out there, and I’m guessing their probably is, I think the iPad™ wedding album may just prove a popular option for the guys who don’t really care about what some men affectionately call a”Stupid book filled with wedding pictures” and it may also appeal to the “Techno Babes.”
More information on my wedding packages are available Here or you can see some of my wedding images Here. You can of course contact me through the contact page should you have any questions, and by all means please pass on this post or my details to your friends (Blatent plug)
Now no blog post would be complete without any pretty pictures so heres one of an iPad™
Tuesdays are not your typical day for a wedding, but you could not have picked a better day for the wedding of Ashleigh and David, they chose a quiet ceremony at South Shields registry office, not so quiet when the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow pulled up !!!
After a quick yet very sweet ceremony everyone moved on to the more picturesque Little Haven Hotel on the edge of the South shields beautiful sandy beach.
The wedding was a mix of fashion / reportage with a little bit of traditional thrown in for good measure ( mothers eh?)
Ashleigh and Dave ( AKA Pete Doherty) make a stunning couple and it was a pleasure to be part of the day, I hope their day was as memorable for them as it was for me !!!
Here is a VERY small sellection of images taken from the day just to give you all an idea of the mood!
( Did I mention they had a Rolls Royce silver shadow?).
I spent a few hours with the beautiful baby ” Ryley” He’s still only a few months old so we where a little limited on his gymnastic abilities but we managed to get some lovely shots, as you may or may not know I like to photograph in a reportage style (magazine) and I think we managed to capture the look well.. ( easy when you have such a beautiful little boy to photograph!!)
Unfortunately we didn’t manage any smiles, Riley went all serious when the camera came out, I think he was going for the moody look..
Big Thanks to Rileys Parents, Mellissa and Mark for their kind permission to use his photos!!
I plan to use Ryley’s images in future advertising and promotional work for baby and bump photography, contrary to popular belief I don’t just photograph weddings…
Here’s small selection of images, Hope you like em!
I can visit your home or a location of your choice to fit in with your timetable, please feel free to contact me fif you have any questions.
Sunday took me to Newcastle where I had the privelage of photographing Rachael and Alastairs unique wedding, set in the dim yet cosy venue of “As you like it” situated in Jesmond. The theme here is amazing with the shabby chic decor, Rachel wanted the “reportage” style of potography, that with the mish mash of stylish furniture suited Rachels quirky style down to a tee, there’s a photo opportunity lurking in every corner.
A nicer couple you couldn’t ask to meet, Rachael and Alistair made me feel welcome from the offset accompanied by their equally accommodating friends and family who made my job of fitting in seem a whole lot easier. ( Thank’s Alastairs Dad!! )
I have to admit this is definitely one of the most challenging wedding photo shoots I have ever attempted, while the venue is indeed a great location as well as a fine Bar & restaurant, the lighting is somewhat “cosy” for want of a better word, but very unforgiving from a photographers point of view and made the photography a challenge I enjoyed.
Here are a selection of images taken from the day, using a few tricks from long exposures to painting with the speedlight flash to try and negate the low light settings, I hope you like them.
All in All, I had a great time at Rachael & Alastair’s wedding, the mood and ambiance was warm and inviting and I was honored to be invited into their personal world, if only for one day…
I Wish you both the very best of luck for now and in the future ( not that you will need it !! )

It’s been a busy old month, what with Wedding queries and commercial shoots..
Weird, but it seems the whole world suddenly wants to get married, not that I’m complaining of course, I do where many hats but one of them is a wedding photographer after all, blatant plug but you can view more of that HERE.
Anyway, I digress I do have lots of pictures to upload to my blog from various photo shoots, which I will get around to posting I promise…. but just to add a bit of diversity to this blog, I though I would share with you some of my work on a commercial shoot I did for a company up in Blaydon named “Impress” these guys can make ANYTHING out of metal whether its making it, bending or cutting it… and not surprisingly are expanding rapidly and as such needed some new images for their promotional material for both web and print, which is where I come in.
The Techy Bit….
All in all the whole shoot took just over two days, I took just one external 300 w flash with me which I used mainly with gels to fill the back lights with colour ( impress have a red and blue theme they wanted to reflect in their images) I traveled light with only two lenses canon 70-200 1.8 IS L series and a tamron 1.8 17 – 55 mm and canon speedlite 380 EXII just to paint a little light on the rim of one two pieces, this little lot proved more than enough.
So here is just a “tiny” selection of some the images I took on site, I may post the studio shots at a later date.
Meet John, nice guy and was natural in front of the camera !! Impress needed shots to promote the “fabrication” arm..
This a montage of just a few of the many shots ..
This a montage of just a few of the many shots .. Cue the Laser machine, Awesome thing to watch..
I Have to be honest this laser was difficult to capture, it was dark its was cramped and above all the damn thing moved and cut steel like you wouldn’t believe!!!
Just in case your curious, you can visit impress HERE
We are always looking out for more commercial work and if you feel your company could benefit from our photographic style , then please do get in touch.
Wow! What a start to 2010 as huge dump of snow decended of an otherwise sunny North East Coast
With hats, gloves, scarves and sledges at the ready we met up with family members and went forth into snowy wilderness… (cleadon hills)
Although I can’t take credit for this little masterpeice I just had to take a photo to record someone’s hard work. I have to admit I love this time of year especially when we are blessed with snow. The skies are always far more interesting but most of all the clothes are so varied, full of texture and colour with scarves and hats to boot.
[above & below] My lovley wife Marie dons her winter clothes and wraps up well.
[below] My daughter Paige joins mum for a photo…
‘Ive added a few more images below, hope you enjoy them..
apparently this is called a french bulldog? [below]
finally we finish with a little vista of the water tower
